About Jennifer Grant


Grant divides her time between personal creative work, work as an editor and editorial consultant (developmental editing, collaborative writing, proposal assistance, fiction critique). She has spoken at writers’ conferences and retreats, including Calvin University's Festival of Faith and Writing (Grand Rapids, MI), Writing for Your Life (Elmhurst, IL and Nashville, TN), Marywood Franciscan Spirituality Center (Arbor Vitae, WI), Breathe Writers (Grand Rapids, MI), and West Coast Christian Writers Conference (San Francisco, CA). 

Grant is a prolific reader who (usually) finishes what she starts, and any given day, may be found reading William Joyce’s Dinosaur Bob or early-American feminist novels by Kate Chopin. She received her master's degree in English literature with concentrations in fiction writing and critical theory from Southern Methodist University in Dallas. She is a member of SCBWI, the Authors Guild, Sigma Tau Delta (International English Honor Society), and the 2030 Collaborative's Faith-Based Coalition for Global Nutrition. 

Grant is a founding member of INK: A Creative Collective. She's proud to serve on the boards of both Open Books and The Secret City

A lifelong mother and Episcopalian, ​she lives in Chicago with her husband, rescue dog Scarlett, and occasionally her four grown children when they come back to the nest to roost for a bit. She loves visiting independent bookstores, people-watching, and traveling. 

 Jennifer Grant is an author and editor based in Chicago.

Her picture book Maybe God Is Like That Too won a gold medal from the Moonbeam Spirit Awards for excellence in children's literature and was named a book of the year finalist in the Foreword Indies awards. To date, it has sold more than 30,000 copies. Her second picture book, Maybe I Can Love My Neighbor Too, was named a Junior Library Guild official gold standard selection. She has written several other books for children, including Finding Calm in Nature and What If I Can’t Explain God?, both released in 2023.

Grant has written for publications including Woman's Day and Chicago Parent. For more than a decade, she wrote features, restaurant profiles, and general interest columns for Sun-Times Media newspapers. She has also worked as a health and family columnist for the Chicago Tribune
