Books for Kids

I love writing for children.

The first book I wrote for children was when I was a child myself. It is called The Lonely Fireplace and tells the story of a neglected fireplace in the summertime,
dreaming of winter.

Finding Calm in Nature is a practical guide connecting nature with the natural experience of human emotions.

Take a look inside!

My first published picture book, Maybe God Is Like That Too, won multiple awards for excellence in children's literature after it was published in 2017 and has sold more than 30,000 copies.

Maybe I Can Love My Neighbor Too explores the practice of being neighborly. It’s publisher, Beaming Books, offers this bingo board and an activity packet, free and downloadable.

Sing, Wrestle, Spin is a book that explores ways to pray that may look unconventional to some, but oh so familiar and natural to others!

A Little Blue Bottle is a story about processing grief inspired by the imagery of Psalm 56:8. Its illustrator, Gillian Whiting, and I have a conversation about the book here.

I developed an activity packet to use with A Little Blue Bottle, free for use here.

Once Upon a time Not So Long Ago is a book about our recent, collective common-uncommon experience of the pandemic. You can see a trailer for the book here! Find coloring pages to use alongside Once Upon a Time here. And here’s an interview I gave about the book.

What If I Can’t Explain God? explores an important aspect of faith: mystery. I love the delightful illustrations Hsulynn Pang created for it. It was recently highlighted in an article titled “Religion Books for Kids (and Parents Too)” in Publishers Weekly.
